A look back at the new hairstyles published on Booth in July 2025, ranked by the likes they collected, with the data alongside. In a category where price barely varies, this was a month that showed clearly what the top entries stacked up instead.

First place went to a twin tail that runs a braid all the way around the head and feeds it into buns beside the ears (16,219 likes). Starting there, here's what each release got right.

#1: Teddy Puff TwinTail / 4o4o

A braid circling the upper head, buns curled beside each ear, long lengths falling from there past the hips, and small teddy-bear clips at the ties — half-up and twin tails layered into one shape. It took the solo #1 spot for July 2025 hairstyles (16,219 likes). A new release from 4o4o — the creator behind the popular Twin Bun Braids — carrying that same bun-and-braid pairing into hip-length hair.

What makes this hair worth a closer look is how the braid runs unbroken all the way into the bun. Updos tend to betray themselves at the seam between what's pinned up and what's left down, but the braid circling the head hides that seam outright. The bangs fall to the eyes and thick strands frame the face, keeping the outline soft. A new release from Nanaha — the creator behind the popular Dahlia_Hair — keeping the straight-long base while scattering the decoration sparingly for a classic look.

What makes this hair worth a closer look is how finely the parts are split into independent meshes. The braid, large flower, star-shaped clip, X clip, halo, ribbon and small flowers can each be toggled on their own, and the back hair separates the outer and inner materials, so you can create looks with different colors front and back. The Mask Map is also split into four versions — All / Braid / Front / Side down — letting you choose where color is applied. A feminine, timeless long style: blunt bangs, a lightly bouncing ahoge, and smooth straight hair reaching past the waist. #3 (13,012 likes). As the series name "LV.2+" suggests, this is a straight evolution of an earlier piece, and it competes almost entirely on "the beauty of plain straight-long hair" with hardly any added decoration.

Beyond the blonde of the main visual, color variations like a black long-straight are included, so a simple color change can swing it from clean to cool. It fits Mayo, Kumaly, Lumina, Ichigo, Milltina, Shinano, Airi, Manuka, Moe, Selestia, Sio, Chocolat, Chiffon, Lime and Shinra for 15 avatars — among the higher compatibility counts in the Top 10. Each avatar gets its own detailed breast shape-key support (Breast big / small / flat and so on), so the straight-long hair falls naturally along the body. #4: Rosy Loop / MariYuri

A girly, glamorous arrangement: one side of the wavy long hair is tied into a loop-shaped bun (Side Bun) with a ribbon. #4 (10,061 likes). A new release from MariYuri — the creator behind the popular Messy Long Hair — swinging from the straighter, tousled direction toward a showier side-arrangement.

The color range is generous: 10 solid colors plus 3 patterns (Gradation / Half / Mesh) for 13 variations in total. The main visual leans silver-to-lavender, but the set spans purple, pink, beige and black across the major tones, and you can also pick a gradient that shifts color toward the tips. It sits in the lightest class of the Top 10, going for color choice rather than shape changes through shape keys. A new release from muu(ﾑｰ) — the creator behind the popular Osananajimi wa Low Twin — swinging from the endearing low-twin direction toward a calmer bun × long silhouette.

The bun adds height while the lengths left down draw the vertical line long, aiming for an elegant, grown-up look. Leaving the bangs and a few loose strands at the sides keeps it from looking too tightly pulled back. A classic clean long style in silver: blunt bangs, a thin side braid (tied with a ribbon), and a restrained inward curl at the tips. #7 (8,773 likes). Set beside #2 Raina_Hair and #3 Fancy_Hair, three clean straight-long styles line up across the upper ranks, which makes what led July clear.

The silhouette keeps the face open and simple, and the white ribbon tied into the side braid is the touch of cleanliness. It supports VRChat PhysBone, uses the lilToon shader, and ships as a Unitypackage (FBX / TEX / MAT / Prefab) — just drop in the Prefab. Right after release, on July 9, v1.01 added "adjusted so the bangs don't sway back and forth too much" and "fixed the zigzag collapse of the side hair," showing the habit of refining the physics details right after publishing. The silhouette renders fine strands as if given a natural perm, a flipped-end style well suited to boyish edits. A fake shadow is set up so you can show the drop shadow of the bangs and sides by changing the material on the avatar's face. There are 13 base color variations (83 textures), and the fine part separation makes material changes easy. It can reuse the same materials as the shop's RotaMushShortHair. A yume-kawaii-leaning girly long style: softly waved long hair with gentle curls all the way to the tips. #9 (6,597 likes). A small black ribbon on one side is the only accent, so it goes for showing "the soft texture itself" rather than overplaying the sweetness.

The main visual leans pale lavender, with a soft flow and curled tips that create a light impression. By limiting decoration to one point (the black ribbon), the hair's own silhouette and waves take the lead. It fits Shinano, Milltina, Ichigo, Milfy, Manuka, Airi, Moe, Chocolat, Chiffon, Sio and Shinra for 11 avatars, with the lilToon shader and a PSD + Unitypackage inside. ¥1,000. WishList numbers its hairstyles, and Fluffin Hair is the tenth of them — one entry in a line that specializes in fluffy silhouettes.

#10: Rabid Wolf Twin tail / GLAY Unknown

A dark, jirai-kei twin tail: long twin tails with braids woven in, paired with black ribbons, X-shaped hairpins and wolf ears. #10 (6,397 likes). A new release from GLAY Unknown — the creator behind the popular Tousled Short Neo Wolf Ver.2 — a twin-tail direction that mixes sweetness and rock, apart from the wolf-cut line.

The twin tails with braids woven into the strands are the signature, and the set includes about 25 wide-ranging color variations in silver, black, lavender, pink and more. The product page notes that "you can recolor simply by changing the main color of the white material," so you can build colors outside the 25 included. The X-shaped hairpins at the bangs, the black ribbons at the sides and the wolf ears lined with checked fabric inside tie the jirai-kei world together. It fits Manuka, Chocolat, Milltina, Airi, Shinra, Moe, Shinano and Sio for 8 avatars, with the lilToon shader and a unitypackage inside (prefab / material / texture / fbx). ¥950.

Average likes come to 2,382 against a median of 1,220. A median above 1,000 is high even among the main monthly-report categories, and with only 90 items in the pool, support concentrates readily on each release. The median price is ¥850.

Supported models: Shinano and Manuka lead, Sio and Kipfel follow

Shinano at 45 and Manuka at 44 lead, followed by Milltina at 36, Chocolat at 35, Sio at 33 and Kipfel at 33. The same names top the outfit category, but hairstyles are where Sio and Kipfel push into the upper ranks. Hair has to match the shape of the head, which shifts the ordering slightly from outfits.

One release that stood out for breadth of support:

Yune-Yune's "Calm Loop Hair" sweeps longer bangs around the face and flips the ends outward around the shoulders. A light, straight silhouette that can lean cool or clean. PhysBone-ready across ten avatars, ¥990. The shape itself is quiet, which is exactly what makes it easy to pair with anything.

On the sweeter side, one release lets you change the shape with shape keys.

iO_Store's "Lolikawa Twin" curls the side lengths into sweet twin tails. Length adjusts freely through shape keys, so the same style works as a shorter twin or as hip-length long hair. Five avatars at ¥800, built with Lolita-style outfits in mind.

Appearance: long and short as two pillars, then the shape of the bangs

Long hair at 33 and short hair at 26 form the two pillars, followed by blunt bangs and twin tails tied at 17 each, then bobs at 16 and waves at 15. Once the overall length is settled, how the bangs are cut becomes the main battleground for individuality — and the numbers show it. In the Top 10, third and seventh place run blunt bangs while first and tenth are twin tails.

From the short-hair side, one release that includes ears and a tail:

Atelier＊Bonappeti's "Koyafel" pairs a fox-motif short cut with matching ears and tail in a Japanese-styled set. Modular Avatar animations switch the number of tails and their movement, changing the look on the fly. Kipfel-compatible at ¥1,200 — a hairstyle designed as a full character kit.

From the leading long-hair side, one release with wide support.

YM STORE's "CamelliaFox" runs very long, shading from white into pink-beige, paired with fox ears, camellia blossoms, a butterfly hairpin and thin side braids. Twenty-four avatars supported — a count that holds up against the Top 10. ¥1,000.

Taste: girly on top, boyish at 18

Girly leads at 33, followed by natural at 27, cool at 25 and cute at 24, with boyish reaching 18 in fifth. The sweet direction holds the center while androgynous and masculine styles maintain a steady share. Eighth place fitting nine male bases sits squarely in that same current.

From the boyish side, one release with horns:

Yamasaka Tofuten's "Tsuntsun Wolf!" is a flipped-out wolf cut with small horns added. The unruly impression of the kicked-out strands gains one devilish motif, and the outline reads clearly on stream or in photos. ¥800.

One from the leading girly axis as well.

DanaStudio's "Mocha Hair" pairs blunt bangs above the brow with braids running down past the hips on both sides, in black. A large blue plaid ribbon sits on the head, with X-shaped pins in the bangs. Ten avatars, ¥1,000 — a direct expression of the month girly took the lead at 33.

Color: brown leads, silver and beige follow

Brown leads at 23, followed by silver at 16, beige at 13 and black at 13. Mid-tones that are neither too bright nor too heavy hold the top, covering the range that suits any skin or eye color. "Color-changeable" also appears on 20 items — supplying presets while still letting buyers alter them is the standard here.

One brown-family release worth a look:

TurningPoint's "Fleur Mellow Hair" runs very long and smooth, with a side braid added as the accent. Twenty-three avatars supported, in a silhouette that settles on the clean side. Built with maid outfits and dresses in mind. ¥1,000.

From silver in second, one release built on the flow of the hair.

#Sinicat3's "LazyWave" is a silver long cut with a loose wave through all of it. The bangs are left long so how much falls over the eyes can be tuned, and the high value of the hair picks up whatever color the lighting throws. Fifteen avatars, ¥1,000.

Price: 51 items at ¥500–999, none above ¥2,000

The distribution runs 2 free, 4 at ¥1–499, 51 at ¥500–999, 33 at ¥1,000–1,999, and zero above ¥2,000. The ¥500–999 band alone accounts for 57% of the total, with a median of ¥850. The entire Top 10 falls within ¥800–¥1,200.

Compared with outfits or avatars the spread is extremely narrow, which shows that hairstyles have settled into a shared understanding of what this category costs. That leaves the competition to be decided inside the same band — by avatar support, color count and how finely the parts split.

From the thickest ¥500–999 band, one release.

Yune-Yune's "Doll Snare Hair" is a low twin tail in black with silver inner color showing through, X-shaped pink pins in the bangs and ribbons at the ties. Ten avatars at ¥990 — the standard build of this band, exactly as it stands.

From the band below, one release with the tension let out:

NORI-NEKO's "Yuru Bosa Hair" spreads the strands into a just-woke-up mess. Ends kick out in every direction for a relaxed air, with an ahoge added on top. Kipfel and Amanatsu Tazusa compatible at ¥300 — a deliberately undone shape among a lineup of tidy ones.

July 2025 hairstyles were separated not by price and not by spectacle, but by how far a buyer could reach into them afterward. Second place split its braid, flower and halo into independent meshes that come off one at a time; fourth place split its mesh seven ways so the bun and ribbon could be handled on their own. Neither hands over a finished object — both hand over the entrance to modifying it. In a category where the entire Top 10 fit inside ¥800–¥1,200, that turned out to be where the room to differentiate was.

The same attitude shows in how avatar support was extended. First place grew to eleven models over nearly a year, fourth place to seventeen, both revisited each time a new base appeared. Building one hairstyle up over time is what held these positions. Colors stayed in the mid-tones while "color-changeable" appeared on 20 items — handing over room to alter rather than committing to a single shade has become the standard here.
