[September 2025] VRChat Hairstyle Trends & Ranking | Booth Trend Analysis

From the new hairstyles published on Booth in September 2025, I'm looking back at the 10 that drew the most likes, with the data alongside. The stars of the month were "character kit" hairs — styles that ship with ears and even a tail in the box.

Sitting at #1 is a loose-curled long hair that pairs rabbit-like lop ears with a halo, at 12,600 likes. That's where I'll start, going through each pick and what makes it tick.

📊 About the data Aggregated: 2026-07-04 / Scope: hairstyles published on Booth between 2025-09-01 and 2025-09-30 with 300+ likes (78 items)

Top 10 Hairstyles

Ranked by like count at the time of aggregation (July 2026), here's what stands out about each one.

#1: Meloa_Hair / Nanaha

A loose-curled long hair flowing below the waist, topped with a rabbit-like lop-ear headdress and a ring halo. The showcase colorway fades softly from pink into purple, and the whole fluffy-sweet mood lands at a glance. It took the outright #1 hairstyle spot for September 2025 with 12,600 likes. This is a new release from Nanaha, who has built a series of named hairs including the popular "Dahlia_Hair".

The lop-ear headdress comes as three prefabs — Ear Front, Ear Middle and Ear X — so you choose how the ears hang, and the bandage, hair clips, hairband and strap are all separate objects you can toggle. Color-wise it ships a 28-color sheet plus PSD and Clip Studio files, so it's wide open to texture edits. Shape keys (ahoge and more) and chest collider tuning are included. It supports 10 avatars including Airi, Manuka and Shinano, at △20,701 polygons, PB-only, with lilToon. ¥990–1,000.

#2: Mekakure Ookami Hair / muu

Heavy bangs that fully cover the eyes, with soft tied side strands hanging down — and as the name says, wolf ears and a big tail come bundled. Put the hair on, attach the set, and a wolf girl is done. It took #2 with 11,688 likes. This is a new release from muu, following the ear-tuck gimmick short hair that placed #2 in my August report.

The tail also comes in a fluffier fur version, and the tied side strands can be switched off with shape keys. There are unusually fine-grained shape keys — FrontA/B for the bangs, plus ear and tail adjustments — so you can dial in exactly how much of the eyes peeks through. It supports 14 avatars including Milltina, Manuka and Shinano, assumes Modular Avatar, and uses lilToon. ¥1,200–1,500.

#3: Devil Long Wolf Hair / GLAY Unknown

A long wolf cut layering down from heavy bangs, with short tied bundles at both sides. A bat-wing hair ornament is included, nailing the little-devil mood in one accent. It took #3 with 11,451 likes. This is a new release from GLAY Unknown, the shop behind the popular messy short neo-wolf hair — wolf silhouettes are their home turf.

The fun part is the white mesh streaks selectable across 3 patterns — just a strand in the bangs, or scattered through the whole head — which changes the impression a lot. Recoloring is a one-material affair: change the main color of the white material and the whole hair follows. It supports 10 avatars including Moe, Manuka, Chocolat and Shinano, with lilToon. ¥950.

#4: mohumohu bob / mochipun

A bob that puffs out with a natural bed-head texture, bundled with animal ears and a fluffy tail. The headline is the gimmick: the ears and tail move with your left-hand gestures. Switch your hand sign and the ears twitch in response, so your conversational reactions become emotional expression on their own. It took #4 with 6,555 likes. As the product page says it was made "because the messy-hair shorts have been popular" — a new release from mochipun building on the reception of their "kusekke short bob".

And breadth of support is this shop's signature: this one covers 57 avatars at ¥500. In my August report their "angel long" (43 avatars, ¥500) placed #6, and the style of keeping the price low while stretching the support list as far as it will go continues here. It comes in 18 colors, installs by dropping the prefab under your avatar with Modular Avatar, and includes a PSD.

#5: Nonchalant Hair / Mikanzumeido

A tousled short cut for masculine and androgynous bodies, with strands scattered loosely rather than styled tight — an easy, natural mood. In a category that skews sweet and feminine, a men's-leaning piece broke into the upper ranks. It took #5 with 6,033 likes. This is a new release from Mikanzumeido, the shop behind the popular "Rock You Bob".

Support started with 6 avatars — the masculine bodies Minase and Hanka alongside Manuka, Shinano, Milltina and Shinra — with Komano and Alué added after release for 8 in total. The thoughtful touches are a neck shape key made specifically for Minase and a head-expansion shape key that makes it easier to fit avatars outside the official list. The listing is written in both Japanese and Korean. lilToon, ¥850.

#6: Casual Side Bun / 4o4o

A relaxed updo with a bun swept to one side and a small ahoge standing on top. Instead of a tightly pinned finish it keeps loose face-framing strands, which is exactly what makes it feel current and casual. It took #6 with 5,697 likes. This is a new release from 4o4o, who made the popular "Teddy Puff TwinTail".

It comes in 7 colors, and shape keys can switch off the ribbon and ahoge, so it swings between sweet and clean-cut. Support started with Shinano, Milltina, Airi and Milfy, then Moe, Sio, Shinra and Chocolat were added after release for a total of 8. It's an easy-wearing updo that sits well with everyday clothes and uniforms alike. lilToon, ¥850.

#7: Loose Grace Hair / Studio4NIMARU

A straight long hair that falls in a gentle flow, finished with a lace headband and pearl hairpins. True to the name, it balances "loose" and "graceful" in one silhouette. It took #7 with 5,588 likes. This is a new release from Studio4NIMARU, who made the popular "StarCross Bob", and the seventh entry in their hair series titled "cepillarse el cabello".

Colors run wide: 6 light tones plus 5 dark tones for 11 in total, from silvery white and cherry-blossom pink to black and deep green, so the same hair can go pure-and-neat or full dark. It supports 18 avatars including Shinano, Manuka and Milltina — on the broad side for this month's Top 10. lilToon, ¥1,000–1,200.

#8: Velvet Cat Long Hair / GLAY Unknown

A long hair with richly curled ends and a curled bun tucked at the side — and cat ears with a bell ribbon bundled in, so a cat-girl coordinate assembles itself. It took #8 with 5,556 likes. This is GLAY Unknown's second entry of September after #3 Devil Long Wolf, and in my August report their rabbit-ear "Rabbit Angel Two Side Twin Tail Hair" placed #8 as well. Animal-accessory hairs are becoming a running line for this shop.

Like #3, it has a 3-pattern mesh streak switch, and with the one-material white recoloring the showcase colors range across white, pink and black. It supports 10 avatars including Moe, Manuka, Chocolat and Shinano, with lilToon. ¥950. That makes two months in a row that GLAY Unknown has landed two entries in the Top 10.

#9: Momong Hair / WishList

Squirrel-motif twin-tails, loosely braided — and the set goes all the way: round squirrel ears, a big fluffy tail, and an acorn to hold in the mouth. Cloud and acorn hairpins round out a piece that commits to its motif in every detail; a small-animal character completes the moment you put it on. It took #9 with 4,052 likes. It's a new release from WishList, a shop with momentum — they also published the purple braided-bun "Dorothy Hair" the same September.

It comes in 8 colors, with the ears and tail matching each hair color. Alongside squirrel-appropriate browns there are bold oranges, light blues and reds, so it works for fantasy palettes too. It supports 11 avatars including Shinano, Milltina, Manuka and Ichigo, and ships as a Unitypackage plus PSD. ¥1,000.

#10: Kiyono Hair / KitsuZuri

A ponytail tied up high with a white ribbon, with long face-framing strands flowing at the cheeks. The clean updo and the soft loose strands balance each other nicely, and it wears well with anything from classical maid outfits to a hoodie. It took #10 with 3,947 likes. After "Seira Hair" placed #10 in my August report, this is KitsuZuri's second straight month in the Top 10.

It supports 12 avatars including Airi, Chiffon, Chocolat, Manuka and Shinano. The package is a Unitypackage (FBX, Material, Prefab), PB-only, hair model only — a no-frills build. The color variations are displayed on one big sheet with the ribbon recolored to match, running from pale pink to black. The listing is written in both Japanese and Korean. ¥1,000.

Beyond the ranking, here's what the data says about all 78 hairstyles published on Booth in September.

MetricValue
Items78
Average likes2,147
Median likes1,187
Average price¥810
Median price¥800
Top 10 avg. supported avatars~16 (8–57)
Top 10 price range¥500–¥1,500

Median likes came to 1,187 and the median price to ¥800. Top 10 support counts stretch from 57 avatars on #4 mohumohu bob down to 8 on #5 Nonchalant Hair, averaging about 16. And the defining feature of the month: half of the Top 10 (#1, #2, #4, #8, #9) bundles ears or a tail. Rabbit-style lop ears, wolf, cat, squirrel — hairstyles are becoming the entry point for a full character.

Supported models: Shinano stays on top, Shinra and Sio run thick

Top 10 Supported Models

Distribution of supported avatar models.

The support-count leaders are Shinano 45 / Manuka 44 / Milltina 42 / Chocolat 33 / Sio 32 / Shinra 32 / Milfy 28 / Airi 28 / Kipfel 27 / Rurune 27. Shinano leads for a second month, forming the usual big three with Manuka and Milltina. What stands out is Shinra at 32, level with Sio in the fifth-place group — together with Kipfel at 27, support for masculine and androgynous bodies is taking root. In the Top 10, #5 Nonchalant Hair rode exactly that lane with masculine bodies like Minase, Hanka and Komano in its lineup.

Here's a good example of how wide Shinano support runs.

TurningPoint's "Muffin Puff Hair" is a rounded bob with the ends flicked outward, its side bangs wrapping softly around the cheeks — and the showcase shots pairing it with lop-ear accessories are adorable. They keep adding prefabs for over 20 avatars including Shinano, Airi, Chocolat and Manuka, a shop that tends its support list with real care.

Silhouettes: long hair locks in the lead, blunt bangs up for a third month

Top 10 Appearance Traits

Distribution of appearance traits — hair, ears, eyes, etc.

The silhouette counts are long hair 35 / blunt bangs 21 / short hair 19 / twin-tails 17 / buns 9 / messy hair 9 / flipped ends 9 / wavy 8 / wolf cut 8 / straight 8. August had long (25) and short (24) neck-and-neck, but in September long hair jumped to 35 and locked in the lead. The Top 10 mirrors it: #1 Meloa, #3 Devil Long Wolf, #7 Loose Grace and #8 Velvet Cat are all longs.

The other current is blunt bangs rising for the third straight month (11 → 17 → 21). Whether to show the eyes, hide them, or let them peek through a sheer layer — bang design is becoming the main battleground for a hairstyle's personality. Here's the emblem of that:

#EverSlumber⊿'s "Sheer Edge" is a black straight long with see-through blunt bangs cut razor-sharp. The eyes glint through the sheer layer for a cool, hard-edged mood, and as the showcase shots with glasses and chain accessories suggest, it pairs beautifully with dark, urban coordinates. What shines is the design that makes the bangs both "heavy" and "sheer" at once.

Taste: cute and girly return to the top, cool keeps its depth

Top 10 Taste Tags

Which taste/aesthetic tags appeared most in this theme.

The taste counts are cute 28 / girly 27 / cool 22 / natural 20 / boyish 16 / fluffy 9 / pure-and-neat 8. August had cool as the outright leader, but in September cute and girly returned to the top, separated by a hair. The Top 10 shows it too, with lop ears, animal ears and squirrel ears everywhere. Meanwhile cool at 22 and boyish at 16 keep their depth — #3 Devil Long Wolf and #5 Nonchalant Hair held upper spots — making September a month where opposing tastes coexisted.

Here's a representative from the girly side.

DanaStudio's "Ayaka" is a pink-beige long hair flowing from two high side sections, in the spirit of a two-side-up. Butterfly hair ornaments are scattered through it, and the softly waving ends keep the whole look sweet. Pair it with a white one-piece and you get a princess-like picture straight away.

Hair color: brown leads for a second month, purple climbs

Top 10 Colors

Distribution of primary colors.

The color counts are brown 17 / silver 13 / black 9 / purple 8 / white 7 / beige 6 / pink 5. Brown leads for a second straight month — its strength as a base color is steady. The eye-catcher is purple climbing to fourth at 8, with works like "Dorothy Hair", the purple braided-bun hair that #9's WishList published the same month, putting saturated purple front and center. In the Top 10, #1 Meloa's pink-to-purple gradient shows the softer way to use it.

Here's the brown representative.

P*Connect's "Choco Short Hair" is, as the name says, a milk-chocolate brown short that puffs out softly. The Kipfel showcase pairs it with animal ears for a small-animal charm. With 16 supported avatars it covers a wide list, a straightforward take on the classic brown-short combination.

Price: 70% lands in ¥500–999, zero at ¥2,000+ for three months running

Price Distribution

Price bucket distribution for products in this theme during the period.

The price distribution is free 1 / ¥1–499 3 / ¥500–999 55 / ¥1,000–1,999 19 / ¥2,000+ 0. The ¥500–999 band holds 55 items, about 71% of the whole — concentration deepened from August's ~55%. The ¥1,000–1,999 band narrowed from 31 to 19, and ¥2,000+ has now been empty for three straight months (July, August, September). The median is ¥800, and the Top 10 fits inside ¥500–¥1,500.

Here's one that stood out in the ¥500–999 band.

ERROR 88991 SWAG's "Blunt Edge Bob" is a black blunt bob cut sharp at the jawline. The showcase ties in a lace ribbon, letting the classical mood and the hard, linear cut sit side by side. It's built on Lapwing as the base, with plenty of shape keys for fitting other avatars. ¥800 (standard edition).

September trends from a hairstyle creator's view

From the Top 10 and the September-wide numbers, here are four angles worth a hairstyle creator's attention. I've lined up three months so the deltas against the July and August reports are visible.

Points for hairstyle creators:

  1. Bundled ears and tails turned "a hairstyle" into "a full character kit" — Half the Top 10 (#1 lop-ear headdress, #2 wolf ears and tail, #4 animal ears and tail, #8 cat ears, #9 squirrel ears and tail) bundles animal parts, and #4 goes further with ears and tail that move on left-hand gestures. The common thread among September's winners isn't pure hair sculpting but a package that decides the character the moment it's worn. The depth of animal motifs lines up with the same month's avatar releases too — hairstyles are becoming the entry point to a beast-style coordinate.

  2. Blunt bangs up three months straight, long hair locks the lead at 35 — Blunt bangs climbed steadily (11 → 17 → 21), with sheer, heavy and eye-covering variants widening the design space. Among silhouettes, long hair broke the August deadlock with short and jumped to 35 for a solid first place. Long hair with a distinctive bang design is the current main battleground.

  3. The ¥500–999 band tightened further — the contest is colors and support counts — The ¥500–999 share rose from ~55% to ~71%, and ¥2,000+ has been empty for three straight months. With price off the table as a differentiator, the top entries stack color counts (#1's 28, #4's 18, #7's 11) and support breadth (#4's 57 avatars). How much "range to choose from" you can load onto an affordable price was September's winning formula.

  4. Series and repeat releases show up directly in the ranking — GLAY Unknown landed two entries for the second month running (#3 and #8); muu (Aug #2 → Sep #2), mochipun (Aug #6 → Sep #4) and KitsuZuri (Aug #10 → Sep #10) all returned from August's board. Add Studio4NIMARU's seventh series entry, Nanaha's named-hair series, and #4's "because the messy-hair shorts have been popular" — feeding one release's reception straight into the next — and the pattern is clear: consistent output builds the regulars at the top.

Wrap-up

September 2025's hairstyles were, in a phrase, the month a hairstyle became the entry point to a character. Lop ears, wolf ears, cat ears, squirrel ears — half the Top 10 bundled ears or a tail, and "full motif kit" hairs that decide your direction the moment you wear them swept the upper ranks. With works like #4, where the ears move on a gesture, the category's territory expanded past sculpting into motion and expression.

At the same time, the faces at the top were remarkably continuous: GLAY Unknown's two entries for a second straight month, muu following up August's #2, mochipun feeding a previous hit's reception into the next release, KitsuZuri holding a Top 10 spot two months running. However much the month's angle shifts, the steady output of creators who keep making things is what shows up in the ranking — and that accumulation is what made September's Top 10 so lively.
