Here's my look back at the 10 most-liked avatars published on Booth in July 2026, data included. What this month's lineup had in common: the things an avatar holds, and the companions it brings along, are part of the avatar itself.

At the top sits a fox-eared avatar in a beret and an oversized knit cardigan (19,189 likes). Let's start there and go through the lineup one avatar at a time.

#1: Kaguya / IKUSIA

A nine-tailed fox avatar with long grayish-brown hair, fox ears, and a black beret. It's a new release from IKUSIA, the creator behind the popular avatar "rurune", and it took the single top spot for July 2026 avatars (19,189 likes at aggregation) — 2.5 times the runner-up.

The default outfit pairs a black sailor-collar top with a red ribbon, a black pleated skirt, black tights, and loafers, all under an oversized knit cardigan with sleeves that swallow the hands. You can also switch to the sailor look without the cardigan.

The tails are the star. Most animal-eared avatars come with one tail in one fixed shape, but Kaguya lets you set the number of tails anywhere from 1 to 9, and pick from 7 shapes including "mofu", "Crystal", "Giza", and "Silk". You can swing them up, down, left, and right, and the ears and tails move along with expressions. Fan out nine crystal tails and you have a photo subject on its own.

The base body is shared with IKUSIA's "Mizuki" and "rurune", so compatible outfits carry straight over. Shape keys number 777 for the face (expressions and edits) and 146 for the body, with MMD support. A small fox companion named "Aburaage" comes along too. Polygons come to △186,741 with the outfit (tails excluded), △79,313 in underwear, and △8,388 to △76,608 per tail type, at Performance Rank Very Poor. The official MochiFitter profile is distributed on a separate page. The price is ¥6,000.

#2: Komane / VRC合法チート研究会

A tall, athletic avatar with long pink twin tails, animal ears flecked with white fur, and a cat-face sleep mask pushed up on her head. She wears a white turtleneck knit top, black shorts with a red belt, white jacket-style sleeves, black thigh-highs, and red platform shoes. It took #2 (7,633 likes at aggregation).

The core idea is a three-tier package: the standard version, a lightweight version at about 70,000 polygons, and a Mobile-ready version at about 15,000. Most avatars ship at one polygon count, and slimming them down is on you. Komane comes in all three weights from the start, so when friends join from Quest or a phone, you just switch to the lighter build. The standard version fits into Performance Rank Poor if you cap textures at 2048.

On the playful side, there's a sleep gimmick: leave both hands open for 5 minutes and she starts to doze, and at 10 minutes she's asleep. Head pats on the head, chest, hips, and thighs change her expression, crouching and prone are replaced with original motions, and the menu lets you switch crouch poses.

The standard version comes to △102,543, with 372 expression shape keys, 58 body-shape keys, and MMD support. Four colorways (white, black, yellow, pink) and three pairs of glasses are included. The MochiFitter profile sits on the same page as a free option. The page opened on July 1 and the release followed on July 4. The price is ¥5,000, with a muscle-definition material add-on (abs and hand creases) sold separately for ¥800.

#3: Urara / MyMe.VR

A girl avatar with a languid expression, pink bob hair tied into side buns, and a pink dumbo octopus perched on her head. She wears a white "TAKE IT EASY" T-shirt under a pink jacket, a phone on a strap around her neck, and white platform sneakers. It took #3 (6,481 likes at aggregation).

This avatar is built around two things you play with by hand: the phone and the octopus. Give a thumbs-up near the phone and it's in your hand; make a fist and it snaps a photo. Hold VRChat's standard camera up to it and the shot appears on the screen, so you can take the picture and save it right there. A thumbs-up near the clip returns it to the strap. The octopus on her head can be grabbed with a fist and moved around, and when you let go it swims back home.

You can drop the jacket for a T-shirt-only look, and a second colorway with black hair and a light blue jacket is included. Face shape keys number 588 (MMD-compatible) with 42 on the body. Polygons come to △92,740 including the outfit and octopus, or △44,812 for the base alone; the product page doesn't list a Performance Rank. A forward MochiFitter profile is included.

The launch had a twist: an illustration contest held before release, with entries from 103 artists featured in the product images. Open the page and the winning pieces are right there, so you can see what kind of picture this character makes before you buy. The creator is すず, with AFK animations contributed by Levin, Futo, and マキアート. The price is ¥6,000.

#4: K02 / ホイホイ工房

A combat android avatar with silver twin tails, purple eyes, a translucent holographic jacket, and a black bodysuit accented in neon green. A gold ring floats above her head, a cable tail hangs from her waist, and a greatsword rides on her back. It took #4 (4,613 likes at aggregation). The backstory casts her as a combat android for an "anti-extraterrestrial defense organization", nicknamed K-Two.

The design is built around how it looks in motion. Matcap is used throughout to render the reflections of metal and sheer fabric, and a custom rig handles the sway and joint silhouettes. The included greatsword can be drawn and sheathed with a right-hand gesture, and you choose whether it follows your hand or stays fixed in the world. There are 20 expression presets, plus an in-VRChat tweak gimmick that lets you adjust the look from the menu.

Polygons come to △64,089 at Performance Rank Poor, with 73 expression shape keys, 18 for lip sync, and 32 for MMD compatibility. As for the rollout, the page opened on July 23 and the release came about three weeks later on August 14. The creator writes that the response was "bigger than expected", so a dress-up base body will be added in an update, beyond the original plan. It's an avatar whose scope grew after seeing the reaction. The price is ¥6,000.

#5: Yobikomi-kun Official 3D Model / バーチャルマーケット公式

An official 3D model of the white talking sales-display speaker that plays "po-po-po-po-po" at storefronts across Japan, recreated as-is. It's fully supervised by Gunma Denki Co., Ltd. and released by the official Virtual Market shop. It took #5 (3,970 likes at aggregation).

The model ships three ways: as an avatar, as an avatar accessory, and as a world prop. Alongside the avatar and attachment Prefabs, an Udon gimmick for placing it in worlds is included. Wear it on your head and you carry the storefront mood around with you.

The sound matches the real thing: the up-tempo "No.4" and the bossa nova "No.2" are both included. You can play them from the menu, and there's also a touch-to-play gimmick that works like the real unit's motion sensor. Five panels can be swapped in — "Welcome", "Hit Product", "Today's Special!!", "Selling Now", and "Limited Edition!" — and the LEDs light up. Polygons come to △10,786 at Performance Rank Good. The Q&A answers "Can I use it as an avatar?" with "Please do!", and explicitly allows placement in public worlds with the audio playing. The price is ¥980.

#6: Finisif / もくもくねどこ

A petite furry avatar: a white cat with big ears and blue eyes, a large navy bow at the neck, a beige coat, navy trousers, and a leather satchel. The backstory makes him a white-cat prince who became a traveler to find his runaway younger brother. It took #6 (3,551 likes at aggregation).

The fun is in the stew-serving gimmick with a pot and a ladle. Pull the pot out from the menu and fix it in the world, hold the ladle in your right hand, scoop stew from the pot, and you can eat it yourself or dish it onto a plate and feed someone nearby. Cooking for companions on the road, straight from the backstory, becomes an actual motion. A book can also be pulled from the menu, and swapping the page texture changes what's drawn inside.

The base body is shared with もくもくねどこ's "Lolonye", so compatible outfits go both ways.

Face shape keys number 131, with 8 expressions pre-set. Polygons come to about 100,000 with the gimmicks (Very Poor), dropping to about 70,000 (Poor) without them. An illustration-style outfit texture and Prefab are included as a bonus, along with a VRM and a MochiFitter profile. The page opened on July 24 and distribution began the next day. The price is ¥3,000.

#7: Kirishima / FUYUMIDORI

A male avatar designed as a man in his thirties, with tousled black wavy hair, shadowed eyes, a black henley shirt, and black slacks cinched with a belt. He's modeled on the detective in a suspense drama, or a suspect with a past. It took #7 (2,559 likes at aggregation).

Expressions are the backbone. ARKit blend shapes are built in, so face tracking from an iPhone or similar carries your facial movement straight onto the model. Webcam expressions and 6-point full-body tracking are stated as verified, and lip sync and eye tracking are set up. Twelve expressions are provided, with the small differences you'd expect at this age — a furrowed brow, a mouth that loosens just slightly.

Polygons come to △69,741 at Performance Rank Medium, on the light side among the humanoid avatars in the Top 10, and it's PC-only. Detailed specs and setup steps live in a separate manual page. The page opened on July 22 and sales began on July 31. The price is ¥8,000.

#8: MI☆CA / CHOCOMINTOU-SHOP

A street-style avatar with dark green hair and mint inner color, a black knit beanie with cat ears, sunglasses, and a fang peeking from her mouth. She wears a black crop top, a black fur coat, black cargo pants trailing mint straps, and platform boots. Built on the concept of "song × dance × street", it took #8 (2,470 likes at aggregation).

The gimmicks sit right on that concept. A megaphone gimmick plays your favorite music, and a boombox gimmick is included too. Particles fire as she dances, and the AFK is a dance motion. AudioLink support lets her light up in time with the world's audio. A food gimmick puts a star-topped mint-chocolate ice cream in her hand.

An alternate outfit, "Perfect Dance", is included: a mint jacket, black leggings, and sneakers, ready for dancing. Face shape keys number 790+, with expression lock, a head-pat gimmick, and original standing, crouching, prone, and sitting poses all set up. Polygons come to △157,430 with outfit and hair, △50,392 for the base alone, and △48,732 for the alternate outfit; the product page doesn't list a Performance Rank. MochiFitter profiles are included for both forward and reverse conversion.

For the rollout, an edition bundling 5 original songs is offered alongside the standard one. The page opened on July 1 and sales began on July 11. The price is ¥5,500 for the standard edition and ¥6,000 for the edition with the original song album.

#9: Watane / TUMEKIRIYA（つめきり屋）

A petite fox-girl avatar with white hair, fox ears, purple eyes, a fang, and a big tail as fluffy as cotton candy. She wears a white hoodie with a paw print, a black frilled skirt, black knee-highs, and platform sneakers. The character is "a mischief-lover with a bit of an attitude", and it took #9 (2,169 likes at aggregation).

This avatar is designed for people playing on desktop or with 3-point tracking. So you can gesture without full-body tracking, the menu calls up 8 looping animations (dance, drawing, foot-stomping, and more), 8 poses (sitting flat, spread-eagle, and so on), signboard animations for "Hello" and "Thank you", and items like a hammer, a crayon, a lollipop, and a kick scooter. Mute your mic and the lollipop goes in her mouth; hop on the kick scooter and the movement animation changes.

A companion comes along too: a white ball of fluff called "Mofune". It can follow her tail, shoulder, or head, and when it's on her head, tapping it turns it into a light. Switch on battle mode and she topples over when hit on the head with a dedicated hammer or when her tail is pulled hard, and that hammer is distributed free on the same page.

Planning and production are by TUMEKIRI and 大妖精フォレスト. Polygons come to △60,032 for the body, △72,258 for the outfit and accessories, and △15,028 for the gimmick items; the product page doesn't list a Performance Rank. Face shape keys number 319. A forward MochiFitter profile is included. The list price is ¥4,500, and at aggregation it was under a campaign price running through September 30.

#10: Makami / YUYUYUYU Works

A girl avatar with glossy black long hair streaked blue on the inside, red eyes, black fluffy animal ears, and a big swishing tail. She wears a white shirt with a red tie and a navy sweater vest under a khaki bomber jacket, with a blue-gray plaid skirt and black lace-up boots. Introduced as "a girl whose ears and tail move a lot", it took #10 (2,046 likes at aggregation).

Ease of setup is the point. Polygons come to △63,212 at Performance Rank Poor, and all you need is the VRChat SDK and lilToon. There are 206 shape keys for expressions and edits, 14 expressions ready to go, and standing, crouching, prone, and AFK motions set up. Base body data and a dress-up Prefab are included, and an eye texture for repainting the iris color was added at users' request.

The MochiFitter profile sits on the same page as a free option, and within about a week of v1.0.0 the creator had fixed an outfit-switching bug and added the eye texture. The price is ¥2,000, the lowest of the humanoid avatars in this Top 10.

July 2026 Trends

Setting the ranking aside, here's what the data shows across all 45 avatars published on Booth in July.

The median sits at 782 likes against an average of 1,766, a distribution pulled upward by Kaguya at the top; the median rose from June's 630. The median price is ¥4,500, slipping slightly from June's ¥4,750. The average landing below the median at ¥3,844 comes from the 5 free releases.

Taste: cool and dark on top, casual close behind

Cool leads with 14, followed by dark 11 / casual 10 / cute 8 / fantasy 8 / mysterious 7 / sexy 6 / laid-back cute 5 / street 5 / boyish 5. Cool and dark held the top two spots again after May and June, with casual right behind at 10. Boyish making the list at 5 reflects a month where boy and male avatars formed a layer of their own.

One cool-leaning avatar outside the Top 10 caught my eye.

かしつ物産館's "Gomi" is a young bassist avatar with blond hair falling over one eye, a red plaid shirt, a black jacket, and jeans. He comes with a guitar case on his back, a black-haired 2P color, and an alternate bangs style. Face blend shapes number 594 with ARKit Perfect Sync support, and polygons come to about 64,000 at Performance Rank Poor. Two more hairstyles and a big T-shirt were added after release.

On the casual side, this one stayed with me.

ciroro's "Uika" is a boy avatar with short black hair and gold eyes, a white hoodie over a black T-shirt, and long black pants. He's built on the shared +Head base, with about 540 expression shape keys. To mark the launch, a project is under way to have three creators design outfits that get bundled in through free updates, and the first — an outfit designed by 長兎路こより, plus a sailor uniform — has already been added.

Appearance: tails lead with 19

Tails take a clear first place with 19, followed by blunt bangs 11 / short hair 11 / long hair 11 / bob hair 9 / animal ears 8 / cat ears 7 / horns 7 / non-human 5 / twin tails 4. Tails have led for three months running, and 4 in 10 of the 45 avatars have one. Half the Top 10 does too: Kaguya at #1, Komane at #2, Finisif at #6, Watane at #9, and Makami at #10.

Outside the Top 10, this tailed avatar stood out.

VIVID PLUM's "Ririsa" is a mature-feeling cat avatar with pale purple long hair, cat ears, and a long tail. Beyond the white off-shoulder knit and black skirt, a swimsuit outfit is included. Face shape keys number 296, and 8 facial presets — sharp, cute, elegant, and more — let you shift the face toward your taste. For MochiFitter, it uses the profile of VIVID PLUM's "Yuzuki", which shares the same base body.

Among the blunt-bangs avatars, this one caught my eye.

さいころワークス's "Fuka" is a calm-mannered avatar with flaxen bob hair, a beret and round glasses, a beige cardigan, and a brown pleated skirt. An air-movement gimmick lets you fly in the direction you're facing after a jump. The rollout is distinctive: a lightweight version without the glasses or PhysBones is distributed free, and anyone who likes it can buy the full version (¥1,500).

Body type: standard proportions at 7 in 10, mascots at 5

The body-type split is 31 standard proportions (about 69%) / 5 mascot / 4 chibi / 3 petite / 2 tall. The share of standard proportions recovered from June's 60%, and mascots thickened to 5. In the Top 10, Yobikomi-kun at #5 is a mascot while Finisif at #6 and Watane at #9 are petite, so the two-layer structure of flagship-scale standard bodies and nimble small ones continues.

On the small side, this one had an interesting approach.

afro-da-afro`s shop's "Threus" is a chibi avatar with a soft, round silhouette holding a mushroom, with pink hair, round glasses, a beret, a burgundy vest, and shorts. Performance Rank is Medium on both PC and Mobile, with the Mobile version at △14,877. Expression, outfit, and hairstyle switching come with particle effects, and VRM and Cluster setups are included.

Among the chibi avatars, this one stayed with me too.

龍村某's "Omoshiro" is a chibi avatar in Japanese dress, with red horns trailing paper charms and monstrous arms reaching out from a black kimono. At its core is a fukuwarai gimmick that lets other people move the parts of the face at will, so having others reach in and rearrange it is the whole game. Vertex count is 56,000 at Performance Rank Very Poor.

Outfit type: boots lead, T-shirts and jackets follow

Boots lead the outfit types with 11, followed by T-shirts 6 / jackets 6 / pants 6 / one-piece dresses 6 / shorts 5 / sneakers 5 / tights 5 / knits 5 / pleated skirts 5. Sailor uniforms, June's leader, gave way to a month of boots underfoot and T-shirt-plus-jacket layering. In the Top 10, MI☆CA at #8 and Makami at #10 wear boots, while Kirishima at #7 goes grown-up in a shirt and slacks.

Among the booted avatars outside the Top 10, this one appeared.

Vervain's "Baphy" is a chibi devil with goat horns and small wings, looking like she stepped out of a 1920s black-and-white cartoon. She pairs a frilled dress with fishnets and lace-up boots, the whole body kept in monochrome. Expression shape keys number 461, with a pipe and companion gimmicks included, plus a MochiFitter profile.

In the jacket group, this one caught my eye.

Vignetoiro's "Chikage" is a boy avatar with black hair and green eyes, with a backstory as a great tree from the Jade Garden turned human. Two Prefabs are included — the translucent pale-green "Jade Garden formal dress" and "casual wear" pairing a white knit with a black jacket and denim — with animal ears in three styles. He's built on the shared +Head base with 455 face shape keys. Polygons come to △65,142 for the formal dress and △87,870 for casual wear, at Performance Rank Poor.

Price: 20 at ¥5,000+, 5 free

The price split is free 5 / ¥1–499: 1 / ¥500–999: 2 / ¥1,000–1,999: 3 / ¥2,000–2,999: 3 / ¥3,000–4,999: 11 / ¥5,000+: 20. Twenty avatars, a bit over 4 in 10, sat at ¥5,000 or more, so the picture of properly priced full-scale avatars at the center carries on from June. At the same time, free releases rose to 5, more than May or June, thickening both the top and the bottom.

From the ¥5,000-and-up band, this one stayed with me.

日良冬屋こんこ's "Yamuneru" is a yami-kawaii girl avatar with a black bob, headphones, an oversized black knit, and loose socks. Her selling point is expression animations with motion built in for every mood, made so you can speak through your face even when you stay silent. Movement and airborne behavior use original locomotion, and the "Unified Expressions" standard for full face tracking is supported. A loose tracksuit alternate outfit is included.

From the free band, this one caught my eye.

n777の物置's "Nyarlathotep" is an eldritch-god avatar with a hood-shaped head, a single crimson eye, and countless writhing tentacles. Polygons come to △44,148 with a single material, landing at Performance Rank Good. It's distributed free, and the supporter edition adds an all-gold "Golden Version".

July 2026 through a creator's eyes

Here are four angles worth noting from the Top 10 and the wider July data, laid out across three months so the shifts against the May and June reports are visible.

Summary

July 2026's new avatars shared one thing at the top: not just how the character looks, but what it holds and what it does with it, all packed into one avatar. Nine tails you fan out, a selfie snapped on a phone, stew scooped from a pot, music from a megaphone — none of these are additions you bolt on later; the creators built them in from the start as extensions of the character. With outfit-fitting tool support passing half the month's releases, an avatar is widening from "base body plus outfit" into "a whole kit for a way of playing".

The clearest sign of that was Yobikomi-kun at #5. A supervised 3D version of a real store device, distributed so it works as an avatar, an attachment, or a world prop, shares a ranking with a nine-tailed fox and a man in his thirties. A classic pretty-girl avatar, a man with some years on him, a personified jingle box — each came to VRChat with its own way of playing. July's Top 10 reads as the result of makers each giving shape to "how I want people to play with this character".
