You open Blender, but on your own, it's hard to get going. You get stuck partway through a model, and there's nobody nearby to ask. On nights like that, there's a place in VRChat where other people are working too, and you can show them your screen and talk it through.
The VRChat group 3DCG Workshop Very Poor keeps a work room like that open 24/7, and as of October 2026, over 1,600 people have joined. In this post, I'll introduce Very Poor, the first community listed on VRCFinder's VRChat Creator Communities page: what kind of group it is, what happens when, and how to join, along with photos.
What You'll Learn

Very Poor: "makers, and a place to make"
Running down the right side of the poster is the line "つくる人と、つくる場所。", roughly "makers, and a place to make," and it sums the group up well. 3DCG Workshop Very Poor is a VRChat group for people working on anything 3DCG: modeling, avatar customization, Unity and more. As the left side of the poster says, "From beginners to pros, everyone's welcome." Beginners and experienced makers alike hang out in the group's world, each working on their own projects while asking questions and chatting along the way.
The group was founded on May 3, 2026 by its lead, iQno, as a co-working group for modelers in VRChat. Membership passed 150 about a month later, on June 2, and as of October 2026 it's over 1,600. It's run by two organizers, iQno and Shirotsu, and the tools people use most are Blender, Autodesk Maya, ZBrush, Substance 3D Painter and Unity.
Even at that size, the world stays lively. Events like the VRC Outfit-Making Meetup draw enough people to fill an instance to capacity, and you'll see plenty of people quietly working with their modeling screens up on iwaSync (a video player placed in the world), and others deep in conversation about what they're making.
Features in the world that help you make things
The group's world has a few features that make working together easier.
| Feature | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Tag markers | Show what you work on (character or environment modeling, VFX, worlds, games and so on) and the logos of the tools you use, floating above your head |
| Avatar figure gimmick | Check outfit clipping and how gimmicks behave |
| Blender Beginner Room | Play tutorial videos for newcomers |
| Focus area | Move here when you want to work without chatting |
The tag markers are especially handy. A glance above someone's head tells you what they're making and which tools they use, so it's easy to spot people on the same tools or someone who can help.
The week: what happens when?
Very Poor's activities fall into three parts. Laid out as a schedule, the Tuesday and Saturday night events sit on top of a 24/7 instance that spans the whole week.
24/7: work & chat instance
The group's instance is open around the clock, so you can drop in to work or chat whenever you like. With no set start time, you can pop in for a bit on a weeknight or settle in for a long session on the weekend. When you need to focus, you can move to the dedicated focus area.
Saturdays at 22:00 JST: VRC 3DCG Meetup
Every Saturday from 22:00 JST, the group holds its regular VRC 3DCG Meetup. It's for anyone looking for people to work alongside or other makers to talk to, and first-timers are welcome.
The monitors around the stage show participants' work screens, so you can see what everyone's making right now.
Tuesdays at 22:00 JST: beginner-friendly work session
On Tuesdays from 22:00 JST, a circle within the group runs a work session for beginners. The idea is simply to get together and work side by side, and you can stay quiet or join partway through.
What makes these sessions stand out is the five-minute mini lesson that runs alongside the work time. So far, people have made a pencil (session #4), a crescent moon using booleans, a feature that adds or cuts one shape with another (session #5), and a pumpkin (session #6, the Halloween edition). Since you end up with a finished shape in five minutes, even someone who just installed Blender gets to the point of "I made something."
Who it suits
Based on the activities above, Very Poor looks like a good fit for:
- People about to start Blender — You can begin with the five-minute mini lessons at the Tuesday beginner sessions and the Blender Beginner Room, which plays tutorial videos
- People who want to make outfits or avatars — The group hosts outfit-making gatherings and meetups run with other communities, and its world has a gimmick for checking outfit clipping
- People who want others to work alongside — You can drop into the 24/7 work instance anytime, and talk with other makers at the Saturday meetup
Past events
Beyond the regular sessions, Very Poor has held all sorts of events. Here are the main ones since the group started.
| Date | Event | What it was |
|---|---|---|
| June 27, 2026 | First event: work & chat session | Co-working style, with everyone moving at their own pace on modeling, textures, worlds and more |
| July 4 | Group world launch & meetup | A meetup to mark the launch of the group's world |
| July 25 | VRC Outfit-Making Meetup #1 | Outfit makers and people hoping to start swapped notes. More people came than expected, and a second one followed on August 8 |
| August 28 | Very Poor × AvatarMuseum Outfit-Making Meetup Special | A walkthrough of the submission tool for an outfit exhibition, plus tips for lighter textures |
| September 15 | First beginner work session | The start of what became the beginner-friendly work sessions |
| September 19 | Very Poor × Marvelous Designer Meetup | A place to talk through outfit-making questions and problems |
| October 22 | "Unity Isn't Scary" lecture #1 | The first of a four-week series, taught by organizer Shirotsu |
Laid out like this, you can see a lot of outfit-making and beginner events. The group also stands out for sessions run with other communities, like AvatarMuseum and the Marvelous Designer meetup.
The full list of events since the group's founding is on Very Poor's page, newest first, each linked to its original post on X. All the photos in this post were posted on the group's X account.
